East Austin Conservancy

East Austin Conservancy (EAC) works to preserve the people, history, and culture of East Austin—a community shaped by resilience, creativity, and generations of Black and Brown families who built this city’s foundation. We do this by providing property tax assistance and other necessary resources to fortify the community.

For longtime homeowners who have lived in East Austin for 20 years or more and are at 50% or below the Median Family Income, EAC provides property tax assistance through a dollar-for-dollar match to help them stay in their homes. Beyond that financial support, we offer wrap-around services—including financial coaching, and connections to trusted community resources—to ensure that residents can thrive, not just survive, in the neighborhoods they’ve called home for decades.

EAC’s work extends beyond homes. We support legacy businesses, historic community spaces like Parque Zaragoza, and programs that strengthen neighborhood identity and belonging. Our efforts focus on fighting displacement not only by easing economic pressures but by investing in people, relationships, and community pride.

Why This Work Matters

East Austin’s story is one of both beauty and injustice. Decades of segregation, underinvestment, and now rapid gentrification have put immense pressure on residents who made the community what it is. Property taxes have skyrocketed, family-owned businesses face closure, and cultural landmarks are at risk of being erased.

EAC stands in the gap—helping people hold on to their homes, heritage, and hope. Every dollar we raise helps protect a family from losing their home, keeps a small business alive, and preserves the soul of East Austin for future generations.

Our work is not just about preventing displacement; it’s about building a future rooted in equity, dignity, and community preservation—ensuring that East Austin’s story continues to be told by those who have always called it home.
